Installation Day: What to Expect

EV Charger Installations in Ellicott City are handled by a two-person team, including our Master Electrician.

Although customers (and their electric vehicles) need not be home during the installation, being on-site can be helpful, particularly for the Wi-Fi setup and the Tesla commissioning process.

Most installations are completed within half a day or less.

  • Our team will walk through the process with you, highlighting the optimal wiring route and identifying where any holes may be needed.
  • We prioritize cleanliness during installation, using drop cloths, shoe covers, and plastic covers in all work areas.
  • After the installation is finished and your new equipment is powered up, we’ll connect your charger to your home’s Wi-Fi and register your device.

Choosing the Right EV Charger

The good news is that almost all vehicles, except for a few, use the J1772 (CCS) connector for charging—Tesla being the primary exception.

Tesla vehicles use a proprietary charger called the NACS. However, most non-Tesla vehicles can also be charged with the NACS when using an adapter.

What Are the Electrical Requirements for Your Home?

Level 2 chargers, operating at maximum capacity, require a 60-amp line and breaker to consistently charge at 48 amps.

Our Master Electrician will assess your home’s current electrical load, taking into account the square footage and all appliances, to determine if your system can handle the full 48 amps. If it can’t, we can install an energy management device. These devices monitor your home’s electrical usage in real-time, automatically shutting down the charger if your home reaches 80% of its capacity. Once the demand decreases, the charger resumes operation, saving you the time and cost of a full home power upgrade in Ellicott City, MD.

Ellicott City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in, and the county seat of, Howard County, Maryland. Part of the Baltimore metropolitan area, its population was 74,947 at the 2020 census, making it the most populous unincorporated county seat in the country. Ellicott City's historic downtown – the Ellicott City Historic District – lies in the valleys of the Tiber and Patapsco rivers. The historic district is often called "Historic Ellicott City" or "Old Ellicott City" to distinguish it from the surrounding suburbs.

The heart of the Historic District is Main Street, which has been the site of several devastating fires, most notably in November 1984, three in 1992, and again on November 9, 1999. The 1984 fire was started by Leidig's Bakery's faulty air conditioning unit and destroyed six buildings; the 1992 fires were by arson, and the 1999 six-alarm blaze, which destroyed five businesses and caused an estimated $2 million in damage, was accidentally started behind a restaurant by a discarded cigarette.

Just under a 30-minute drive from Baltimore, Ellicott City is a quick escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The historic streets and architecture are home to over 70 eclectic boutiques and shops, art galleries, dining options, and more.
