EV Charging Incentives and Rebates in Maryland

While the federal $7,500 electric vehicle (EV) purchase credit officially expired on Sept. 30 this year, there are still many amazing rebates and incentives available for families and individuals looking to install home chargers.

These programs are designed to accelerate EV adoption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and support the state’s clean energy goals.

What Are EV Charging Incentives and Rebates?

In Maryland, charging incentives and rebates are provided by state agencies, utilities, and sometimes federal entities to offset the costs associated with purchasing and installing EV charging equipment. These programs aim to:

  • Promote Clean Transportation: Incentives encourage the shift from gasoline-powered vehicles to electric ones.
  • Expand Charging Infrastructure: Programs work to increase the availability of charging stations across the state.
  • Make EV Ownership More Accessible: EV charging incentives and rebates in Maryland help to reduce upfront costs for individuals and businesses.

Key Maryland EV charging Incentives include

Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) EVSE Rebate Program

The MEA offers the Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) Rebate Program, which provides:

  • Residential Rebates: Up to 50% of the cost for purchasing and installing a qualified EV charger, capped at $700 per charger.
  • Commercial Rebates: Up to 50% of the cost, capped at $5,000 per charger, with a maximum total award of $125,000 per applicant for the fiscal year.

Note: Funding is allocated in August of each year, and there is plenty of money left for FY26. Funds typically run out by February, at which time applicants are placed on a waiting list until the next fiscal year.

Utility Company Incentives

Several Maryland utility companies offer additional incentives:

  • Potomac Edison offers a discount on the TIME OF USE for those who install a qualified Level 2 charger.
  • Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) encourages EV drivers to unlock a discount of $10 a month and 20% off electricity with a qualified charger that we stock.

Federal Tax Credit

At the federal level, individuals who install qualified EV charging equipment may be eligible for a tax credit of up to $1,000. This credit, which expires on June 30, 2026, applies to 30% of the cost of purchasing and installing the equipment. Income limits and location of the install apply. The EV Power Solutions team can help you determine your eligibility and walk you through the process.
